about

William and Gudula:

When we were playing at the Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival in 2022 our Airbnb host Gudula came to see us play. The next day we received a message from Gudula saying that she and her friends really enjoyed the show and that she noticed that we play the accordion in some of our songs. She then told us that she had an accordion that belonged to her late husband William and that she would like to give it to us as a gift. It’s safe to say that we were blown away, honoured, and humbled by the offer.

That afternoon we met up and she brought out a beautiful accordion in amazing condition and gifted it to us. She then began to tell us about William:
William was of Jewish-Hungarian descent and grew up in Sydney. His parents bought him his first accordion when he was five years old. He learned to play Klezmer-Folk music but by the time he was a teenager he could play almost anything on the accordion. He got picked on a bit at school but then he started getting invited to high school parties where he would play the accordion. The kids would call out songs for him to play, anything from folk, to disco, to rock and he would play it. These kids would dance and sing along and have the best time. From this point on if William was ever getting picked on at school these kids would stick up for him. So the accordion really helped him through this time.

After school William went to study law and met Gudula. Gudula had done theatre school and taught drama which was a totally different world than law but they fell in love. As they grew closer they wanted to understand each others lives better so they decided to do some study in each others fields. Gudula started studying some law and ended up doing a full masters in legal studies. Meanwhile William did some courses in creative fields like creative writing and storytelling. Their love and commitment to each other was obviously beautiful and strong.

William and Gudula got married in Kangaroo valley and always planned to move there when they retired because they thought it was the most beautiful place. Unfortunately William got sick and passed away before they could make this happen.

When we met Gudula at her house in Kangaroo Valley she told us that she was glad that she still decided to move there. She said that she loved it there and she’s sure that William would have loved it too.

about

Bromham Adelaide, Australia

Bromham is more of a musical community than a band, a group made up of friends they’ve met along the way, and it shows. Their joy for music and life (and a little bit of silliness) is tangible and infectious as these 14 (or so) musicians all bring their own influences and unique instruments together in a remarkably cohesive and natural way in order to tell stories about their family, friends. ... more
