about
In 1828, Archibald McLean was enjoying a drink in his local pub when he was taken and forcibly subscribed to Her Majesty's Royal Navy. After some months, he escaped and found himself aboard a pirate ship. Due to his actions as a pirate and the exaggerating British media, he became known as "Hellfire Jack". Eventually, after a long and fruitful time as a sea-faring anarchist, he was captured and hanged by British forces.
During his time at sea, Archibald often wrote to his wife Catherine. This song is a collection of these letters.
lyrics
Catherine
Found a shilling in my cup, they dragged me from the pub, oh
I have sinned
and I guess that you would
Catherine
Please tell the kids that I never meant for this, oh
I have sinned
and I guess that you would
[instrumental]
Catherine
I'm the sailing Robin Hood, I'm doing this for good, oh
I have sinned
and I guess that you would
Catherine
I'm the lord of the sea, you'll never catch me
I have sinned
and I guess that you would
[instrumental]
Hey!
Yes?
Yes?
No!
I guess it's over now, I guess it's over now, I guess it's over now, but
I guess it's over now, I guess it's over now, I guess it's over now, but
I guess it's over now, I guess it's over now, I guess it's over now, but
[instrumental]
Hey!
Yes?
Yes?
No!

Bromham is more of a musical community than a band, a group made up of friends they’ve met along the way, and it shows.
Their joy for music and life (and a little bit of silliness) is tangible and infectious as these 14 (or so) musicians all bring their own influences and unique instruments together in a remarkably cohesive and natural way in order to tell stories about their family, friends....more
